Sorry Guys

2008 October 6

I must say sorry, it’s been over a week since my last post but I have great news. I am now the proud owner of a new laptop due to the greatness of giftness. Mother decided to get a contract phone and with the deal she was given an Acer Aspire 5315 which in turn was handed over to me, primed and ready to be booted with Ubuntu 8.04 (I haven’t yet made the step into the Beta world) only recently I have changed the distro to UbuntuStudio. As with most Linux installations it didn’t go as smooth as possible (at least the actual system runs and boots better than Vista) As soon as installation completed, boot up and POW a nice little message about my wireless card being proprietary and unusable, after much searching, a day of trying and two partition formats I finally came across my saving grace which I shall provide here for others convenience (I had to use this other method for when I changed to UbuntuStudio) I still have problems now and again with the sound cards but this could be the software mixing at work.

Enough tech jargon for now, some personal news is in order. On Sunday the 28th, I and my fellow members of our college theatre company performed ‘Metamorphosis‘ (the link refers to the novel and not the play written by Steven Berkoff) at the Rhoda McGaw theatre in Woking at the 50th Woking Drama Festival opening the ceremony to the Mayor of Woking and coming away with some very good feedback from the lovely adjudicator (who I’m certain will have a very tough job over the entire festival) whilst a previous adjudicator who gave us, let’s say, reasonable feedback was hopefully squirming in his seat realizing his mistakes. Personally I think we all performed very well, quite a few hiccups at the beginning but soon got into our rhythm even though I was suppressing the onslaught of a recurring peritonsillar abscess which has cleared up very nicely. We shall find out the results this Saturday and if we have to be recalled for the final presentation. Maybe, maybe not? (noticed that ‘Find Me’ by Olwyn Wymark was performed on Saturday 4th which I performed in for my AS Drama performance exam and was given full marks, bask in my glory bitches, ego boost over)

In the 360 world we were treated to Mega Man 9 (hardcore gamers rejoice) and War World. I can’t actually comment on both these demos as the War Worlds demo finishes after 48 seconds and I can only barely get past the first hole in Mega Man 9, I’ll give it a proper try later on perhaps.

Check out my first attempt at some GIMP action at the beginning of the post, not bad i think, comment if you want.
